Question

I wanted to learn about how to calculate the mMol/L of the water soluble fertilizer like calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate, etc. Also how to prepare the recipe for tomato's

Answer

Dear Sivin, There are a number of ways for expressing solute concentration like (1)Molarity, M = moles solute/liter of solution (2) Normality, N = equivalents of solute/liter of solution (3)Weight %, Wt % = (mass of solute/mass of solution) x 100% (4) Parts per million, ppm = (mass of solute/mass of solution) x 106 (5)Mass per volume, mg/L = mass of solute/liter of solution (6)molality, m = moles of solute/mass of solvent (7)mole fraction, χ = moles of solute/total moles Parts per million: The number of milligrams of solute per kg of solution = one ppm, since 1 mg = 10-3 g and 1 kg = 103 g. To convert concentrations in mg/L (or ppm in dilute solution) to molarity, divide by the molar mass of the analyte to convert mass in mg into a corresponding number of moles. For detais regarding various tomato recipes you may pls contact the Home Science Department of College of Agriculture, Vellayani Ph : 0471- 2381002
